Welcome to RCM-SAR 20 - Pender Island
RCM-SAR 20 - Pender Island serves the waters around Pender, Galiano, Mayne and Saturna Islands from their base at Browning Harbour, North Pender Island.
We are a key part of the marine search and rescue system, and we work in one of the most challenging search and rescue regions in the world. Our volunteers handle marine emergencies every year. They stand ready to leave their jobs and their families on a moment’s notice to help people in trouble on the water – no matter how foul the weather or how rough the seas.
Our crews are highly trained, and equipped with specialized rescue vessels designed for the challenges of the West Coast.
You make this possible.
Most of the funding for this vital public safety service comes from generous donations from individuals, companies, and community grants. Your contribution helps us keep up our training so we are safe and effective. It helps keep our boats at the ready and our equipment ship-shape. And it helps us spread our boating safety message to children and families.
Did You Know?
The RCM-SAR participates in resolving nearly one third of the SAR incidents that occur on the BC coast, either as the principal resource, or as an additional response vessel.
Our boat "RCM SAR 20", is a Titan 249XL T-Top, an aluminium RIB (Rigid Hull Inflatable), powered by twin Yamaha 200HP motors, which can get us to an incident at up to around 40 knots, depending on conditions. Equipped with state of the art navigation, radar and communications. Our crews undergo regular extensive training to master the vessel and equipment, ensuring we are ready for when we are called upon.
